It’s all about sustainability – three ways BIOFORSENSE® technology can save valuable resources
Renewable raw materials for sustainable living – this is how our customers gain a unique market position as provider of sustainable and bio-based products.
We take the Green Deal seriously
We provide a game-changing technology which gently extracts all the main components of biomass in one process. The resulting biomaterials – cellulose, polymeric hemicellulose and sulphur-free lignin – are extremely pure and close to their natural form. It is possible to replace oil- and food-based materials completely with these biomaterials.
Our process is practically chemical-free and a recent study shows the CO2 emissions of our process to be less than 1% of competitors’. Here are three factors showing how our BIOFORSENSE® technology can create a revolutionary shift towards a truly sustainable circular bioeconomy.
1. Environmental friendliness
Our patented fractionation process is environmentally friendly and cost competitive. It is based on pressurized hot water extraction, and only few chemicals are used in the process. The need for fresh water is also low due to closed water circulation. The process can use wood, but also other lignocellulosic feedstock, such as agricultural and industrial side streams.
The material efficiency of our technology is over 90%, while our competitors remain at 50% or less.
2. Carbon neutrality
An external environmental impact assessment has recently found CH-Bioforce’s process to be, in practice, carbon neutral. It could be even described as carbon storage, as the carbon in fast growing annual plants such as straw used as a raw material is stored for years in products such as clothing instead of the straw being burned or left to rot in the fields, releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
According to the study, the CO2 emission of CH-Bioforce is only 0.0176 tons CO2e/ADt. The CO2 emissions in our process are less than 1% than those of the current mainstream technology in the pulping industry.
3. Sustainable feedstock
Our process can use agricultural and industrial side streams as feedstock. Some of our licensing customers can even circulate their current lignocellulosic waste streams into high value products, which can be used a feedstock to their other businesses.
Our competitors in biorefinery industry mainly use wood-based and competitors in bio-based chemical use mainly food-based feedstock, such as corn and potato. We strongly believe that valuable nutritional resources should not be wasted like this. Fortunately, there already is a solution.
